I incorperated Albers’s use of folding paper in the small zig-zag shapes along the strings and also in the crumbling of the paper.Ruth Asawa
I incorperated Asawa’s use of the vertical stucture in my piece. I was fond of this technique because it creates tension which is something I strive for in my artwork.Progress Updates
I originally wanted my final piece to replicate my original practice excersize. After researching artists I decided to ditch this plan and push myself to get out of my comfort zone.
After my research I decided to get the hardest part overwith. I created my Vantours inspired collage on the ceiling. I chose the stonehenge paper because I knew it was sturdy and would not allow the glue to show through. My decision to add color was to tie in the top of the work with the bottom.

Next I created these bunches of paper by tying a string tightly around my newsprint prints. I chose the newsprint because I knew it would fold easily and show the most amount of wrinkles. At this stage I also added sumi ink in the shadows of the fold to increase contrast between light and dark values.

The next step was to add in the pink guache. I chose guache to reflect the materials that we used in See Lab. The pink was added to the medium/gray values to show that they are not dark or light. I determined the values by shining a light on the paper.

Finally I added my original woodblocks to show the process that this project entailed. While painting the glass woodblock I discovered forms within the imprints and played with that. Then I played with the guache and the string to emphasize that the piece was united even though they werent physically toching.

This is an image of the final piece once it was all done.
